Kick the kids out of the room. The president in on TV again, and again, it’s for a shockingly offensive comment, especially coming from an American president.
The Washington Post reported that President Donald Trump actually told a bipartisan group of Senators in a conversation about immigration today,
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”
Trump made the comment in reference to immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti and African countries. According to multiple news reports, immediately after, Trump suggested that the United States should instead bring more people in from countries like Norway.
The White House has not denied the president made the vulgar comment.
Fox News reports that about a dozen people were in the room at the time, both Republicans and Democrats, and according to WaPo, Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) were present at the meeting and “were surprised by the comments.”
The New York Times writes this is “The latest example of [Trump’s] penchant for racially tinged remarks denigrating immigrants.”
