Mail order abortion pills now available in the U.S.

Need a safe abortion even though it’s hard to get one in or around Grand Junction?

Now there’s an answer, if you’re healthy and less than 9 weeks pregnant.

The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice announced that mail order abortion pills are now available in the U.S. through the Dutch website AidAccess.org.

AidAccess is a private initiative by a committed team of medical doctors and longterm abortion rights activists. The website is supported by a team of English and Spanish-speaking help-desk members. The goal of AidAccess.org is to assist women who don’t have access to locally available abortion services.

AidAccess was established a decade or so ago by Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, acting on the conviction that laws do not control whether or not abortions happen, the only thing laws can control is whether or not they happen safely.

Aid Access helps arrange for abortion pills to be shipped to patients around the world, and last October, as a result of growing requests and tightening abortion laws, the organization started arranging for the shipping of abortion pills to the United States.

Dr. Gomperts also founded an organization called Women on Waves, which sailed a ship around the world, providing safe abortions at sea in international waters for women who had no legal alternative.

How the medications work:

AidAccess provides safe, medical abortions through the use of a combination of medications in tablet form that cause the non-surgical termination of an early pregnancy up until the 10th week of pregnancy.

AidAccess explains how the medications work:

“Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone, which is required to sustain a pregnancy. Without this hormone, the attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterine wall is disrupted, and the uterus contracts. Misoprostol enhances contractions and helps to expel the products of conception from the uterus.

Mifepristone with Misoprostol are proven to be highly effective, safe and acceptable for early first trimester abortions. The effects of this method of abortion include cramping and prolonged menstrual-like bleeding. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The risk of serious complication is exceptionally low. Research indicates that it is safe to perform the medical abortion procedure at home as long as the woman lives near a hospital or other emergency service.”

How the service works, and the cost:

If you are healthy and less than 9 weeks pregnant, you can do an online consultation through AidAccess’s website. A doctor will review your online consultation and refer you to a trustworthy pharmacy where you can obtain the abortion pills. The help desk and doctor will be available to answer any questions you have via email before, during and after the abortion process.  An abortion with pills can be done safely at home as long as you have good information and access to emergency care in the rare case of complications.

The site suggests a donation of 80 Euro (about $90 U.S.), but says they will “also try to help when you cannot afford this.”

  1. Thank you for this info. After Alabama women (and men) are talking “out into the streets.”
Rumor has it, SCOTUS Stevens is politically sensitive and more letters, calls, and activism
might suggest the court not hear abortion law appeals.

Can we get a mega-sign along Montgomery’s beltway: “Free sports game tickets for
    verified vasectomy”?

  2. This pill is created by the ignorant, for the ignorant. You cannot abort metaphysics, which is what this is another of mans ignorant attempts to do.

There is no “religious” tie-in to abortion. And no liberal or conservative tie-in. Nor any “women’s reproductive rights” tie-in, which is beyond ignorance if that’d even possible. It is a matter of a correct understanding. This is metaphysics.

Got pregnant while out drinking and screwing? Got raped? Sorry to hear that. Options include Having The Baby And Giving It Up, or having it and keeping it.
