“Recall Polis” campaign violating laws to gather signatures – county passes Resolution prohibiting taping signs to their buildings

The Recall Polis people at 4:00 p.m. on 8/29/19 violating the law by setting up shop in a public park without obtaining the necessary permits from the City Parks and Rec Department.

Upset citizens have been contacting the City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department and the Mesa County Elections Bureau left and right to complain about the “Recall Polis” campaign violating laws by putting up tables and signage in places that require permitting or where it is prohibited by law.

In the photo above, the Recall Polis people had set up their operation at Spring Valley Park on Patterson Road, a public park. A reader sent the above photo and complained to the City about it, upon which G.J. Parks and Rec Department responded:

There were enough people upset by the Recall Polis people affixing their signs to the Mesa County Centralized Services Building that at their Monday, August 26 2019 meeting, the Mesa County Commissioners passed a Signage Resolution prohibiting the Polis Campaign and anyone else from taping their signage to county buildings.

The Resolution reads, in part:

WHEREAS, the public’s right to free expression does not include posting or placing signage, stickers, placards or other forms of media on County owned or leased buildings without County authorization. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MESA COUNTY, COLORADO THAT: 1. No person or entity may place or post signs, stickers, placards or other forms of media on County owned, leased or controlled buildings or facilities, or attach the same to the lawn or adjacent parking areas.

So Polis Campaign people, get your signs OFF of the county building immediately, please, and show you respect our laws by getting a permit from the City to gather signatures in public parks!

The Recall Polis campaign was taping their signs to the County Centralized Services Building at 200 S. Spruce Street. People complained to the point that the Commissioners passed a resolution making it illegal to tape signs to the building like this, so if you see the Recall Polis people doing it again, please report it to County Administrator at 970-244-1689.

Here are some reasons from the Recall Polis website:–( I posted the real truth in caps after all your propaganda truth.)
    — He signed the National Popular Vote Compact this IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE BALLOT FOR THE PEOPLE TO DECIDE, NOT WRITTEN INTO LAW WITHOUT OUR CONSENT.
    — He signed a Red Flag Bill to disarm mentally ill citizens who have guns ANYONE COULD SAY YOU OR YOUR NEIGHBOR HAS BEEN ACTING CRAZY, AND THEY COULD COME GET YOUR GUNS WITHOUT DUE PROCESS.
    — He approves of oil & gas drilling setbacks to preserve health and safety WE VOTED AN ABSOLUTE NO ON PROP. 181- OIL AND GAS BILL. SO POLIS SIGNS IT INTO LAW ANYWAY. IT IS NOT TO PRESERVE HEALTH AND SAFETY, IT IS TO FULFILL AGENDA 21’S PLAN TO TRANSFER ENERGY WEALTH TO OTHER LESS ECONOMIC COUNTRIES. WE ARE THE ENERGY LEADERS RIGHT NOW, AND THAT IS NOT IN THE UN’S PLAN.
    — He approves the teaching of truthful sexual education in public schools TRUTHFUL SEXUAL EDUCATION? SORRY I DON’T WANT ANYONE TEACHING MY 10 YEAR OLD ABOUT ANAL SEX, OR ANY OTHER KIND SEX FOR THAT MATTER. I AM THE ONE TO DO THE TEACHING, SCHOOLS HAVE ZERO BUSINESS IN TEACHING VALUES, THIS IS NOT WHO MOST OF US ARE.
    — He favors limiting the negative effects of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) THERE ARE NO NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TABOR. IT IS TO LIMIT SPENDING AND OVERSPENDING TO GROWTH. IT IS “FREE MONEY” THAT THEY WANT TO TAKE AWAY FROM TAXPAYERS TO SPEND HOW THEY CHOOSE, INSTEAD OF REFUNDING IT TO THE TAXPAYERS. THEY OVER COLLECT, THEN SPEND. NO ON PROPOSITION CC!
    — He wants all Coloradans to be covered with health insurance. I WORK IN HEALTHCARE. MEDICAID OR MEDICARE FOR ALL WILL NOT WORK. MANY OF THE RURAL HOSPITALS IN COLORADO WOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS, MANY PRIVATE PRACTICE PHYSICIANS WILL GO OUT OF BUSINESS. THERE WOULD BE LONG WAIT LISTS FOR ANY ELECTIVE SURGERIES. GOVERMENT NEEDS TO STAYOUT OF THE HEALTH CARE BUSINESS- LOOK AT THE VA- IF THEY CAN’T GET HEALTH RIGHT FOR VETERANS, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK DOING IT FOR EVERYONE WILL WORK?

ALL IN ALL PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE THE HELL UP.

    • Michelle,

In internet discourse, writing in all caps equates to yelling and is usually frowned upon in polite discussions. In this case however, it seems to fit perfectly with your rhetoric. You come across as angry and even hysterical and so you threaten to prevent this conversation from being a civil one. I don’t understand why but it seems like about a third of Americans seem to be angry and hysterical these days and that’s why there are so few civil, constructive conversations taking place. Maybe you can wake up and take your tone down a few notches.

  3. Well this blog page should tell the whole story. True, we should obey our laws I agree. But why do these “Polis Campaign people” want to recall Gov. Polis in the first place, is it because he’s Gay? To some regard maybe, but no I haven’t heard that. Why then? Anne can you please fill in the gaps, why do these people want Polis recalled?

    TY in advance.
