Bigger than Roe western slope march planned for Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 @ 1:00 p.m.

Crowd gathering in front of the old courthouse before the 2019 Womens March in downtown Grand Junction

Fifty years to the day after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade made abortion a constitutional right, a march will be held locally in Grand Junction to demand that federal protections for abortion not only be restored, but be made even better than Roe allowed.

Last June (2022), the far-right Republican majority now sitting on the U.S. Supreme Court stunned the country when it reversed 50 years of precedent in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling, invalidating Roe v Wade.  The ruling end Americans’ federally-protected right to obtain an abortion.  It was the first time the Supreme Court has ever taken away a fundamental constitutional protection from people in the United States of America.

March starts at Old Courthouse, 5th and Rood Ave.

The march will start in front of the Old Courthouse at 6th Street and Rood Ave. in downtown Grand Junction. It is sponsored by Mesa County Democrats, Colorado West Pride, One Colorado, and Cobalt Advocates.

Speakers will begin at 1:00 p.m., and then volunteers will will lead the march. Upon returning to the Old Courthouse, there will be more music and an open mic for those who wish to share their stories and comment.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A STREET-BLOCKED MARCH. Participants MUST STAY ON DESIGNATED SIDEWALKS AND OBEY PEDESTRIAN LAWS

People are invited to gather for sign-making on January 19th at Mesa County Democratic Party headquarters at 310 North 7th St., Unit 2, in the old R-5 building, from 1:00-6:00 p.m.  All sign-making materials and refreshments will be supplied.

  1. Il Italiano Bistro closed permanently on Jan 16.
I am sure the sudden closure was due to something bad that has happened.
I don’t know what. Have you heard.
When you a call the restaurant, it goes to voicemail saying they have closed. Thanking people for 24.5 years of service. Thank you.
