9News’ Kyle Clark in Denver reports that Colorado Republicans are pressuring Gov. Polis to pardon Tina Peters, and have contacted the U.S. Attorney General to ask the Department of Justice to prosecute Mesa County Court Judge Matthew Barrett, who presided over Tina’s criminal case and sentenced her to 9 years of incarceration after the jury found her guilty of multiple criminal charges related to election equipment tampering.

Judge Barrett showed great restraint in that trial. Tina’s lawyers spend most of their time challenging the judge and wasting time with absurd arguments. No credible lawyer would represent her. This action by Bondi’s Justice Dep’t is unprecedented in such a cut and dried case. They are going after lawyers and law firms that represent people who oppose Trump—the same things that are done in dictatorships.

Matthew Barrett is a partisan hack judge who should be severely disciplined. His sentencing was absolutely unjust and the remarks he made before sentencing should be used to get Peters’ case thrown out.

Why? He was spot on. The defense tried to relitigate the election rather than offer a defense. They didn’t deny she did the crimes, they tried to justify them. The judge pointed out that her motivations were irrelevant. The trial was about what she did, not why.
Just because you agree she was justified doesn’t mean she isn’t guilty of doing the crimes. She is, and she is paying the price for it.

Cite any specific legal errors the judge made. You can’t; you just claim a judge is a “partisan hack” because they ruled against the criminal you support.

Don’t just shun Peters, shun hers supporters. Shun the people that continue to support Trump and this administration.
Under Trump, the GOP is a corrupt, cares little of the rule of law, and sides with evil. Pardoning January 6th rioters, ignoring judges that have unfrozen federal funding, intervening on behalf of the Tate brothers, siding with Putin, alienating our allies, cutting off aid to the most vulnerable while extending tax cuts to the most wealthy, selling golden visas to Russian oligarchs, and I can go on.
In short, I can see Trump going for this, because of everything mentioned above, but I think it’s time to also shun the people that justify this stuff and enable it to happen.

Twelve Mesa County jurors found Peters guilty on a raft of serious charges. Threatening to withhold federal funds to leverage her release is a full frontal attack on our justice system, and cannot be allowed to succeed.
Enough. We need to find out NOW how to stop all $$$ from Colorado to the fed government, CO is one of the states that gives a hell of a lot more than it receives.
The logistical problem here is that the bulk of the money sent from Colorado to the Federal government is sent via taxes directly. Since most of us have jobs where taxes are withheld and sent to the feds from each paycheck.
Sadly, there isn’t an easy way to stop the flow of money to Washington.
Colorado could pass a law that all withholding be kept in Colorado in state accounts, but the feds would certainly challenge such a law.
Keep an eye on Maine–after Donnie Convict threatened to withhold federal funding, they threatened to stop sending payroll taxes. (Not including Social Security and Unemployment.)
