New website crops up opposing CD-3 Rep. Jeff Hurd (R)

A new website, HurdUsAll.org, has sprung up to oppose Congressional District 3 House Representative Jeff Hurd (R), who voted to cut Medicaid and food assistance funding for vulnerable people, something Hurd had promised he would not do. The ownership of the site is not public.

HurdUsAll.org explains under its “Hall of Hyprocrisy” tab that after Hurd promised constituents he would oppose any reconciliation bill that reduced Medicaid coverage for vulnerable people, instead he did the opposite and voted FOR HR 1 – the One Big Beautiful Bill — which created additional red rape for Medicaid recipients by instating work requirements — a move intended to push weak and vulnerable people off their Medicaid coverage.  An estimated 95,000 – 108,000 Coloradans are expected to lose Medicaid coverage under the bill Hurd voted for.

One of the “stickers” HurdUsAll.org has on its site

The “Two Faced, One Goal” tab on the website explains what Republicans promised Americans the bill would do for them and what the bill will actually do, by showing how and why the promised tax relief for Americans is really a sham.

The site discusses how Hurd’s “yes” vote on HR-1 is going to drive up the cost of health insurance, cut food assistance for children, dismantle the social safety net, slash disability services and home care, abandon farmers, cut funding the mental health and worse, for CD-3 constituents.

The website charges that Hurd is not in Washington to help his constituents, but rather to help “the billionaire class.”

A check of Hurd’s donors on the Federal Election Commission website shows Hurd has accepted donations from uber-wealthy individuals and groups, including

  • Peter Coors, whose family has a net worth of over $5 billion and owns CoorsTek and Molson Coors Brewing;
  • Philip Anschutz, whose fortune is valued at over $19 billion,
  • Charles Schwab, net worth $12.7 billion
  • KochPAC, a political action committee that represents the interests of Koch Industries, owned in part by Charles Koch, whose net worth is $78.3 Billion
  • The National Rifle Association

…and wealthy western slopers including:

  • Steve Meyer, president of Shaw Construction and the person whom the Meyer Ballroom at Colorado Mesa University (CMU)  is named after;
  • Doug and Jamee Simons and their front range Republican relatives Rick and Linda Enstrom, all joint owners of Enstrom Candies
  • John Moss, local fast food purveyor and the person who the CMU Moss Performing Arts Center is named after;
  • Quintin Shear, the oil and gas consultant who for years has been pushing the City of Grand Junction and Mesa County to publicly finance a new 29 Road interchange at I-70 so he can develop or sell all the land he owns around location of the proposed intersection.

Hurd took and oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, but so far Rep. Hurd has been silent on Trump’s persistent and severe violations of the Constitution, his infringing on Americans’ civil rights, repeated violations of court orders and laws, and his pushing the U.S.  into a dictatorship. Hurd’s job as a Congressman is to be a check on Trump’s authoritarian overreach — which requires courage, dedication and spine — but Hurd has failed to do anything significant to rein in Trump’s and Republicans’ extraordinary overreach — all at a terrible cost not just to his CD-3 constituents, but to the entire United States of America and its democracy.
