Why Rep. Jeff Hurd been repeatedly voting to hurt his constituents

This tweet explains why CD-3 House Rep. Jeff Hurd isn’t working to help his constituents. He’s not in Congress to help people. He’s there to curry Trump’s favor.

Rep. Jeff Hurd has been refusing to serve as a check on Trump’s lawless actions and ethical violations. He’s been supporting keeping the Epstein files from the public. He’s been voting for policies that hurt his constituents instead of help them. People have been wondering why on Earth he’s been acting that way when he was sent to Congress to help his constituents.

On October 25th the answer to that question became clear: Hurd is not in Congress to help his constituents. He’s there to suck up to Trump.

Hurd voted to cut taxes on the wealthiest Americans at the expense of average Americans in his district. He voted to kick hundreds of thousands of people off their Medicaid coverage, cut food assistance to hungry families and make it harder for married women to vote. Now he’s refusing restore Affordable Care Act subsidies that Republicans slashed with their Big, Ugly Bill. Hurd’s inaction on health insurance subsidies will make thousands of his constituents’ health insurance bills double next year. That’s hurting people, and lots of them.

Hurd has been voting repeatedly to hurt his constituents, make their lives harder and more expensive, make their health worse and make them hungrier. Now it’s clear why he’s doing it: to curry the favor of convicted felon/sexual abuser President Trump.

Hurd & Trump and the White House

  1. I knew he was a coward from the time he started his campaign. I have never come across a lawyer who is so afraid of talking to people who disagree with him. Watch when he backpeddles on his promise to protect our wildlands and the animals on them. Trump wants our land for oil and gas exploration. Hurd will bend over and not cross Trump in the least.

  2. I would like to see how much of a salary Hurd is getting from whatever law firm he is working for now, and how much PAC money is being paid to his law firm.

  3. I disagree, Anne. Hurd isn’t doing it to suck up to trump, he’s doing it because he’s too much of a coward to stand up to the orange menace.

    1. I disagree. Hurd could be hoping for an appointment to some prestigious position in the administration solely on his merits as a dyed-in-the-wool Trump loyalist. Many people who currently hold positions in the Trump administration got their appointments that way. Experience and qualifications mean nothing to Trump. Loyalty is all that’s needed to get appointed, for example, as the head of a massive federal agency in this administration. It is now emerging that Jeff Hurd may be less interested in helping his constituents as their elected House Rep than in climbing the ladder of the Trump regime. Where else would he get the opportunity to move up so far, so fast and with zero qualifications or experience? I’m sure he sees it as the opportunity of a lifetime.
