Trump’s “Quiet, piggy” insult to a female reporter on Air Force One is stoking outrage — and creative responses online

On Friday, November 14, after Bloomberg correspondent Catherine Lucey asked Trump on Air Force One why he was fighting release of the Epstein files “if there’s nothing incriminating in the files,” Trump just pointed his finger in her face and said “Quiet, Piggy!”

Video clips of Trump’s insult garnered millions of views on online after it happened. Despite news of it spreading far and wide, so far only a single politician in the country has denounced it: California Governor Gavin Newsom, who posted this meme in response:

Los Angeles Times “Voices” columnist Anita Chabria wrote a column in response, saying Trump’s insult should raise alarms as “a dangerous invitation to violence” in the ongoing “war on women that is ultimately part of the war on democracy.” She points out Trump’s “hostile sexism” toward women is “part of a broader strategy of picking off groups one by one to consolidate power,” and that every authoritarian regime works to control women as an important part of the strategy to control the population.

Trump’s disgusting response is also generating merchandise online, like this T-shirt:

…and video clips like this:

We must not become complacent about Trump’s constant degradation of women.

  1. Certainly US Media is captured by their Corporate Lords, but Social Media is even worse. “Maria Ressa, the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize–winning journalist from the Philippines, has warned that today’s social media platforms are structurally undermining truth and democracy by spreading lies, hate, and disinformation faster than facts. She argues that this “surveillance capitalism” business model and algorithmic design are central political problems, not just tech glitches.”
This article was from the Guardian yesterday and not mentioned in any US Media;”Many of the most influential personalities in the “Make America great again” (Maga) movement on X are based outside of the US, including Russia, Nigeria and India, a new transparency feature on the social media site has revealed. The new tool, called “about this account”, became available on Friday to users of the Elon Musk-owned platform. It allows anyone to see where an account is located, when it joined the platform, how often its username has been changed, and how the X app was downloaded. These are all intended to weaken democracies around the world”-Autocracy Inc.

  2. 90% of US media is owned by 6 companies. Those media owners have refused to stand up for their employees, call out Trump’s lies or behavior and have repeatedly shown preemptive compliance. The watchdogs of democracy won’t even whimper when kicked, how are they to provide any protection, or reliable information needed for a functioning democracy?!!
