Indivisible Grand Junction is calling for a Protect Our Libraries protest at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at the County Commissioners’ meeting at 544 Rood Ave., with a gathering at 8:15 a.m., before the meeting starts. They sent out the following call to action this morning asking people to come and comment at the meeting:
————————
Hi Neighbors,
This Tuesday, December 16 at 9:00 a.m., the Mesa County Commissioners are attempting to quietly remake our public library board—with no discussion and no transparency.
On the consent agenda (meaning it will be approved without public debate) is an item to remove current Library Board President Sue Conry and board member Alice Dow—both of whom submitted letters to serve a second five-year term—and replace them with Lisa Fry and Rosanne Croft.

Conry and Dow were invited to reapply in early fall and heard nothing until Friday, when they learned by email—at the same time the agenda was posted—that they would not be reappointed.
This process has lacked even the most basic transparency.
Conry and Dow are respected, experienced community leaders who have provided steady, principled oversight of a library system with a $10+ million budget and 100 employees. They are being replaced by individuals with little relevant experience and clear ideological agendas, raising serious concerns about the future of our libraries.
This is part of a broader pattern: after losing control of the D51 School Board, far-right actors are now targeting our public libraries.

Call to Action
Tuesday, December 16 | 9:00am Mesa County Board of County Commissioners – Administrative Hearing (Public Comment) 📍 544 Rood Avenue
Please come make public comment and ask the Commissioners to:
-Support current board members Alice Dow and Sue Conry

-Explain the lack of a transparent process
-Question Lisa Fry and Rosanne Croft’s lack of experience
-Express support for MCPL Executive Director Michele Boisvenue-Fox
-Demand non-partisan library trustees committed to serving all Mesa County residents—regardless of race, class, gender identity, disability, or who they love
-Remove this item from the consent agenda for full public discussion
Community members will be gathering outside the building with signs at 8:15 a.m. to show support for the current board members–please join if you’re able!
Libraries belong to the people—not political extremists. Let’s show up, speak out, and defend institutions that serve our entire community.

I see you’re using ChatGPT.
That’s a shame. Good luck with that.
Only for occasional cartoons. The writing is my own.
What are the names of those they are trying to appoint please?
Hi Gail,
The current board members who want to do another term are Alice Dow and Board President Sue Conry. The Commissioners are trying to remove them and replace with Lisa Fry and Rosanne Croft.
You should probably vet your sources, instead of just reposting rage bait from your fellow travelers. The contrast between the selection process laid out in the public hearing and the ideological histrionics from the Reactionaryist Blog and commenters speak for themselves. The right obviously doesn’t have a monopoly on conspiracy theories and victimhood narratives.
