Donald Trump posted the above message on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Bombing power plants and bridges — civilian infrastructure — is a war crime under Articles 51 and 54 of the Geneva Conventions.
The Geneva Conventions are series of international treaties ratified by all nations and enacted in 1949, after World War II, that lay out the core tenets of international humanitarian law. The Geneva Conventions were adopted to protect non-combatants and people who cannot take part in fighting a war — including people like civilians, medical personnel, aid workers and people who are so sick or wounded that they can no longer fight. The idea is to limit barbarianism, extreme cruelty or brutality, in war.
Trump, who represents the United States on the world stage, prefers to engage in barbarianism on behalf of all Americans.
Trump’s unhinged, profane, violent Easter post prompted legislators to renew calls for Trump’s cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which can be used to remove a president when he or she is incapacitated and unable to carry out normal duties.
A highly offensive post like — and especially use of the “F” word in an official post — is not normal or acceptable behavior from a U.S. President. It may also pose a danger to the country by indicating Trump has lost the ability to act appropriately and control himself mentally.
