Additional Information for No Kings Day 2.0, Saturday, Oct. 18 @ noon at Main and Spruce

Sign from previous protest in downtown Grand Junction earlier this year.

Indivisible Grand Junction posted this additional information in advance of the upcoming No Kings Day 2.0 event scheduled for this Saturday:

—————–

Please come prepared for a peaceful, FUN event: We’re encouraging costumes you can move in and are safe for everyone around you.

We will meet at 12 p.m. at Main & Spruce on Saturday 10/18. We’ll begin at noon with short comments from community speakers and tables from various Grand Junction organizations!

🔥Please consider joining the Mesa Valley Education Association at 9:00 a.m. at Sherwood Park for speakers, breakfast and canvassing prior to the No Kings march at noon!

Drop your ballot in the ballot box when you arrive to avoid a bottleneck at the box: Place all signs outside of the 100 f00t circle around the drop box.

There is no electioneering allowed within 100 feet of the ballot box.

We will march through downtown in a loop back to our starting point. The entire route is about 1 mile. Please be aware of your boundaries. Safety team members will be along the route and at all crosswalks.

There is an option to stay at our meeting point for any reason if the march is not for you on Saturday: We will have a designated area with Safety Team members to be visible to the traffic on 1st ave at our start/end point.

Be aware of your boundaries and note there will be a lot happening with construction, excited marchers, community members enjoying downtown on a Saturday, etc.

There will be a lot of people joining us: Carpool or walk if you can.

Have fun! Bring noisemakers, dance and sing, dress in costumes that you can move in, bring loved ones!

❌1. Be aware of 100 ft boundary around Drop Box:
-Electioneering, or campaigning, is illegal within 100 ft of the ballot box, and includes any campaign-related signs or voter intimidation.
-To ensure we do not run into any issues, please put down all signs when in 100 ft of the ballot box, and make sure that you are not blocking the box at any point.
-While we support specific candidates and issues, we welcome ALL voters regardless of which candidates and propositions they vote for.

🛡2. Safety First – Know Your Surroundings:
-We will be going very slowly, especially as we cross 1st Street at the start and end of the march. Do not pass people in front of you: We want our community to see us!
-Watch out for uneven sidewalks and curbs.
-Stay on the sidewalk or designated pedestrian areas at all times. There will be Safety Team members at all crosswalks. Only cross at crosswalks when safe to do so. Do not cross against any traffic lights.
-There is ample sidewalk space for all of us. Be courteous, and allow people not in the march to pass you by.
-Be aware of vehicles, especially if people slow down or react aggressively. -Do not engage — our power is in our discipline.

👾3. Digital Security
-Keep phones on airplane mode or turned off unless needed for emergencies or coordination.
-Disable biometrics and facial recognition
-Avoid posting faces of other protesters without consent.
-Document wisely—if something happens, film from a distance, don’t escalate.

🕊4. Commit to Nonviolence
-We are here in joyful resistance. We do not escalate.
-Do not engage hecklers, counter-protesters, or aggressive drivers. That’s a job for the Safety Team.
-If someone becomes disruptive, alert a safety team member immediately.
-Marching can be exciting and stressful! If you see an agitated fellow-marcher, you can support them in remaining calm, patient and peaceful.

🧰5. Bring What You Need
-Water, snacks. Weather-appropriate clothing or costumes!
-Signage with clear, bold messages — keep it focused and legible.
-Bring noisemakers: kazoos, whistles, etc. Please leave behind anything that can be construed as a weapon–err on the side of caution here.

🩹6. In Case of Emergency
-If you see any hecklers or counter protestors, do not engage and back away
-If you see anyone doing something destructive or violent: Back away, and alert a Safety Team member
-First aid is located on site. Safety team members can connect you to first aid.
-If police approach or engage, stay calm and silent.
-Do not consent to searches. Say, “I do not consent to a search.”
-Have an emergency contact or legal support (personal attorney, ACLU or NLG hotline) number written on your arm or somewhere on your body that is covered by clothing.

🦄7. Look Out for Each Other
-Stay in pairs or small groups. Check in with those around you.
-If someone looks overwhelmed, anxious, or overheated, help them step aside and notify a Safety Team Member.
