Rep. Jeff Hurd voted 6 times so far to keep the Iran war going

As of Aug. 28, 2026, Spectrum news estimated Trump’s war on Iran was costing U.S. taxpayers between $246 million and $1 billion per day. Rep.Hurd keeps voting to keep it going.

Given multiple chances to help Congress re-assert control over its war-making powers, Republican House Representative Jeff Hurd (Colorado CD-3) refused, voting six times in favor of keeping Convicted Felon/Adjudicated Sexual Abuser/President Donald Trump’s war against Iran going, even though Constitutional experts, legal scholars and a majority of Congress have deemed the war illegal under both U.S. and international law.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution gives Congress the exclusive power to declare war.  A U.S. President is responsible for the actual conduct of military operations, but only after hostilities are legally initiated by Congress.

Trump’s war has killed thousands so far, and led to massive increases in energy costs in the U.S. and across the globe. According to Fortune magazine, as of October 27, 2026, Americans have spent from $141 billion to $160 billion in additional fuel and energy costs since Trump started his war on February 28, 2026, and Americans are paying about eight times more in energy costs per person than others around the globe.

According to Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaíi, who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Trump’s war has cost each American household at least $5,000 so far.

The death toll in 2026 of Trump’s Iran conflict so far is estimated to be between 9,047 and 18,371 people across all military and civilian categories on both sides. That number includes 21 to 23 deaths of U.S. military members, according to data compiled by the Military Spend Iran War Casualties Tracker.

Despite the devastation and expense of the war, given the opportunity multiple times to help Congress reassert its control over American war powers, CD3’s Rep. Jeff Hurd failed.

Hurd voted against Iran War Powers resolutions to end or limit Trump’s war at least 6 times in the U.S. House of Representatives during 2026. They include the following votes:
Eight months into the Iran war, when he was asked about his persistent votes against ending the war, Hurd declared that the measures to end the war were “not balanced” and “not in the national interest.”
