Tax Day March Planned in Grand Junction to Push Trump to Reveal his Tax Returns

Tax Day march planned in Grand Junction April 15

Activists are organizing a local tax day march on Saturday, April 15 in solidarity with a national effort to show President Donald Trump that Americans very much want him to reveal his tax returns.

The Trump administration poses unprecedented economic conflicts of interest to the office of president.  People across the country are participating in Tax Day Marches to urge the president to make these potential conflicts visible, including pertinent documentation regarding foreign influences and financial interests which may confirm that President Trump is in conflict with the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. Trump has insisted on keeping his tax returns secret. He is the first president in decades who has refused to make his tax returns public.

The Emoluments Clause is 49 words in Article I of the Constitution. It says:

“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Many people believe Trump is already violating the Emoluments Clause by taking payments from foreign powers. For example, Trump rents out space in Trump Tower to a Chinese Bank. He also has an enormous global business empire that is reliant on payments from foreign entities, including loans, rents and sales of apartments, condos and retail space in resorts, hotels and developments around the world.

People will gather in front of Grand Junction City Hall, 250 N. 5th Street, downtown Grand Junction at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. The march will start at 1:00 p.m. It will follow a route around and through downtown Grand Junction, with speakers mid-way through the route at the downtown Post Office at 241 N. 4th Street. All are welcome. Bring signs!
