Rallies to support impeachment planned in G.J. and across the nation

A rally to urge Colorado’s elected officials to impeach and remove President Donald Trump is planned in Grand Junction on Tuesday, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind the federal building  at 400 Rood Ave. Senator Cory Gardner’s office is in the federal building on Rood and House Representative Tipton’s office is in the Alpine Bank Building next door.

This national mobilization is scheduled the day before the House of Representatives is expected to vote on adopting two Articles of Impeachment (pdf) against President Trump that the House Judiciary Committee approved on Friday, December 13. The articles describe high crimes and misdemeanors the President has committed while in office:

Article I: Abuse of Power

Long-time professional federal employees including eleven career Foreign Service staff, military officers and Pentagon officials have testified publicly about how President Trump abused the power of his office to benefit himself personally and about how his “shadow” foreign policy effort in Ukraine compromised national security, undermined America’s democratic process and threatened the integrity of the 2020 elections.

Trump has publicly asked three different countries — Ukraine, China and Russia — to interfere on his behalf in America’s general elections.

Article II: Obstruction of Congress

President Donald Trump

Congress asked President Trump to hand over documents pertinent to impeachment and subpoenaed National Security Advisor John Bolton, Bolton’s aide Dr. Charles Kupperman, Trump’s Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, State Department Secretary Mike Pompeo and other key government officials to testify at hearings about the President’s unlawful behavior, but President Trump instructed all these officials to disobey lawfully-issued Congressional subpoenas. This violates U.S. law. It is a crime to obstruct Congress in an investigation this way. Congress has the only power of oversight over a president’s bad behavior, and obstructing Congressional oversight is a crime. Any person who is issued a subpoena in the U.S. MUST obey that subpoena and appear as instructed, or violate the law. President Trump has therefore instructed federal officials to violate the law.

Organizations supporting the rally include Indivisible, Public Citizen, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Democracy for America, Common Cause, CREDO, Daily Kos, MoveOn, Need to Impeach and many others.

Please show up for this important rally. We should generate crowd at least as big as the Women’s March protest of January 21, 2017, after Trump was inaugurated. The future of our country depends on how Republican elected officials handle this moment in history, and whether have the courage to act to stop President Trump from continuing to violate U.S. laws, endanger our country’s national security and corrupt our elections.
