Columbine Liquors in Palisade temporarily closes; former owner said to have “obtained the business illegally”

Columbine Liquors at 210 W. Third in Palisade was recently seized from former owner Bill Carlson, and as of April 27, 2020, the store is under new ownership by Thomas Lewis Goerke.

A liquor store employee answered a call to the store and when asked about the store’s closure, said Bill Carlson “got the company seized from him” because he had “obtained the business illegally.” The employee didn’t know how Carlson had obtained the business. The store will reopen after the new owner obtains a liquor license. An application for the new license has been submitted.

  1. I am NOT the new owner of Columbine Liquors. I am the “Conservator For” Columbine Liquors at the direction of Mesa County District Court. NO employee should be commenting on the situation and yes Bill Carlson is innocent until the court finds different in the future. If the court finds for Mr. Carlson then he will get his business and real estate back. If not then it will be sold in the future to someone new.

  2. One of our trustees from palisade won the mayors seat opening up a position for trustee. Now the board should move the next candidate with the most votes up to this position. The trustees think they should appoint a trustee of their liking. Nothing like padding the board with a majority instead of fair elections. I don’t believe this is the way it should work. If nothing else hold a special election. How about the candidate’s that did the work, did it right, only to lose to someone who didn’t apply ( to just be appointed) or get nessary signatures to run. Bill Carlson Should not have been sworn in until His charges are resolved. Why didn’t any trustee step up to recommend blocking swear in? Wow

  3. Bill Carlsen was sworn in as Palisade Town Trustee last night. I thought it was interesting that he was able to raise his right hand and swear to uphold the state laws when he, in fact, was just in violation of, made apparent by the state having to come in and shut down what he illegally took. Good job, Palisade.

    • I was surprised, too. I know he’s ‘innocent until proven guilty,’ but there are some strong allegations against him at the moment and it would be better if they were cleared up before he took public office.
