What is Red Rock’s “Worry-Free Gas”?

This is always an interesting charge to find on a Red Rock dealership contract: “Worry-Free Gas.”

No one who has discovered this charge on their contract knows what it is.

None of them ever got any gas from Red Rock. They didn’t even get a full tank of gas with their purchase.

In fact one woman who bought a used Subaru from Red Rock Nissan and kept the window sticker from her car pointed out that it said a “Full tank of gas INCL” in the sale, yet she was charged $119 for “Worry Free Gas.”

The gas tank of her Subaru holds less than 16 gallons. The dealership didn’t even fill the tank before she drove it off the lot. No one at the dealership offered her any gas when she bought the car. Yet later on, when she was checking her documents after the sale, she found (among the other items) that she had been charged $119 for “Worry-Free Gas.”

Not only that, but the $119 had been rolled into the total price of the car, so she will now be paying interest on that “Worry-Free Gas” for years to come through her loan.

Another “Worry Free Gas” charge. No one knows what it’s for. No one got any gas.

Window sticker from the Subaru saying a full tank of gas was included. The buyer said tank was not full when she bought the car and Red Rock never gave her a drop of gas, but charged her $119 for “Worry-Free Gas.” The financial manager rolled the charge into the total price of the customer’s car, and so the customer will now be paying interest on it through her loan for years to come.

  1. Nor was it a sticker from Red Rock.

I don’t understand why none of the people you talk to don’t understand the basics of being a consumer…complain until you get what you want.

But it is good to know what an unscrupulous outfit Red Rock is.

  2. I love worry free gas. I have used nervous gas and the car just bucks and jumps. But with worry free gas driving is smooth and happy. At last these guys have discovered something good besides fraud.

  3. While I think Red Rock is completely shady, that window sticker with the “included free gas” is from when the car was new. That’s the original window sticker from Glenwood Springs Subaru. Free gas is common in brand new vehicles. Whoever bought the car new got a free tank.

        • Remember, this is a customer who never even got to see her contract. As they did with so many people, the Red Rock financial manager had this customer sign digitally on an IPad, and then added the digital signature to the “Buyer” and “Purchaser” lines in the contract without letting her see or approve the multiple applications of her signature. The customer did not get to see, let alone approve, either the contract to purchase the vehicle, or the extra added charges on it. She did not approve the $1,495 charge for “Resistall” on the contract, either. She never would have agreed to that, she said, because she takes meticulous care of her cars herself. This was a straight-up case of fraud by the dealer. It was not the customer’s fault.

  4. You’ve done an amazing job at reporting on Red Rock dealerships. A close friend discovered nearly $6,000 of charge he didn’t authorize thanks to your articles and is now pursuing his case against the dealership. Thanks to your reporting I will also know what to look for when in the market for a vehicle.
