One of two full page ads the Washington Post cancelled at the last minute with no explanation. The ads were funded jointly by Common Cause and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
At the last minute, the Washington Post (WaPo) pulled two full page ads funded by the nonprofits Common Cause and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that called for Elon Musk’s ouster from government. The ads were “wrap around ads” set to cover the entire front and back pages of the paper. The groups also bought a large ad inside the paper, but pulled that ad after being informed their wrap-around ads were being cancelled. The ads met all of the criteria the paper had established for publication. WaPo offered the groups no explanation for the last minute cancellation. The ads were supposed to appear in the Washington, D.C. edition that gets delivered to the White House.
The Washington Post is owned by multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and the third richest human being on Earth, who has been increasingly kowtowing to Donald Trump.
Last October, in apparent deference to Trump in the run-up to the election, WaPo suddenly decided to end its decades-long practice of endorsing presidential candidates. The paper had been set to endorse Kamala Harris for president and lost around 200,000 digital subscribers as a result of opting to kill the endorsement.
Then, under Bezos, Amazon made a $1 million “investment” in Trump’s inauguration. In January, WaPo killed a political cartoon critical of Bezos that was drawn by the paper’s longtime political cartoonist Ann Telnaes, who quit as a result, after having worked for WaPo since 2008. Showing even more cozying-up between Bezos and Trump, in February, Melania Trump signed a deal with Amazon to make a documentary about her life, which will earn her $28 million.
In mid-January, more than 400 Washington Post employees, including prominent journalists and editors, sent a letter to Bezos expressing their concern about the Post’s leadership and requesting a meeting to discuss the future of the newspaper and restoring trust in the paper, which they felt has been lost.
Since the Washington Post refused to run the ads by Common Cause and the SPLC, they are published here so people can see them. The first is at the top of this blog.
Here’s the second ad:
Just wondering if the Southern Poverty Law Center ever made up an ad protesting the Biden administration allowing and facilitating sex-trafficing and drug transportation across the southern border.
That would be a big, fat “no”.
Do you not know what the SPLC does, or are you just trying yet another desperate “whatabout?” to try to defend the Musk administration without admitting it?
Yes!
I’ve had my eye on the SPLC for many years. They may have had a good and benevolent beginning but over the years, along with the ACLU, they have descended to the depths of leftist, partisan, name calling, race baiting hell.
I’m sure someone like you is just impressed with the name and haven’t noticed and that’s what they count on.
No, I know the good they do, and what they stand for; lots of things that trigger you. Elon and his stooge have turned you into what we all see now…someone who’s sworn to say the exact opposite of the truth, because his masters have deemed it so.
Next, we’re gonna hear about how Jimmy Carter was actually a Satanist.
I cancelled my WAPO subscription the minute they ( Bezos) refused to endorse Harris. Feels good to have done that. Now we need to share these ads everywhere!
This is getting scary bad to see the power Musk has along coupled with newspapers such as the WaPo get reduced to publishing only what will please the king. I wouldn’t be surprised if the WaPo gets bought out to be nothing but a right wing horn for propaganda.
It’s obvious that Bezos refuses to publish abusive rhetoric aimed at an African American.
Jeff started to see the light when he refused to endorse Harris.
PS…no one elected any of the horrible bureaucrats, like Mayorkas, who opened our borders to millions of unvetted and illegal immigrants and then lied about it.
I like the South African.
Oh, look everyone; Harry’s being edgy again; everyone be offended over his disingenuous coded racist wordplay, so he can feel that *tingle* of naughtiness, and pretend he didn’t miss out on all the fun by being so strait-laced his whole life.
Yes, Harry. Very bad. Very naughty.
Much shocking.
Such offense.
These “Technofuedelists” stand in solidarity. They make the Robber Barons look like amateurs.
