The April 5 Hands Off! demonstration is ON in Grand Junction!

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Mesa County Democrats, Indivisible Grand Junction, Western Colorado Alliance, Mesa County Action Coalition, and others will host a Hands Off! protest on the lawn of the Historic Lowell School Building at 7th and Grand! The event coincides with nationwide action that day “to stand up against those who believe they can take whatever they want — our democracy, our future, our rights.”

The event will protest the drastic, illegal measures the Trump/Musk regime is taking against our federal government offices and services, the unprecedented attacks on our civil rights and seizure of millions of Americans’ personal information, like social security numbers and banking information, and the damage Trump and Musk are doing to vital sources of scientific research, as well as their attacks on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, the rights of transgender Americans, immigrant rights and so much more.

Bring your signs and park in the parking lot at 8th St. and Grand Ave.! There will be food trucks and Gemini Brewing will be open. This will be a nonviolent, family-friendly, peaceful protest that welcomes all people — especially former supporters of Trump who can now see the damage being done. There will be activities for kids, speakers, and music.

The historic Lowell School building at 7th and Grand Ave.

There was some confusion about the event after people who signed up to participate got emails saying it had been cancelled. It has NOT been cancelled! Organizers just changed the venue, but the event management software being used required the organizers to cancel the first event and then wait 24 hours before re-posting it with the event’s new venue.

So join your fellow citizens on April 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lowell School in saying HANDS OFF the best things about the United States of America!!

Here are the details:

Local Co-Hosts: Indivisible Grand Junction, Mesa County Action Coalition, Mesa County Democratic PartyFor the purposes of the event, the Mesa County Democratic Party is the host, and because they are tenants of the Historic Lowell School Building, they have access to bathrooms upstairs and downstairs in the building (ADA accessible on the first floor. 1. To John,
Can you tell me what “imminent domain” is? I went to public school (not charter nor home), but I was always “learnt” it was eminent domain? Enlighten me to the “side” of things….and I guess I should read some different books

  2. You people are a total waste of time..Can’t really help in any area..all you do is yap your trap and do nothing. Feed the kids and protect them from the trafficking and quit advocating for the mentally ill freaks and get them the help they need. No body is taking your money Anne, nobody is taking away your civil rights. Satan’s world right now, why don’t you start preaching the truth of what is going on. You people live in a delusional world.

    1. Civil rights being terminated under Trump:

Trump regime is illegally kidnapping people who are in the U.S. legally and who don’t have criminal records and disappearing them, some to locations outside the country, without legally-required due process: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/migrants-in-u-s-legally-and-with-no-criminal-history-caught-up-in-trump-crackdown

      1. I agree that sending Venezuelans to El Salvador is very questionable. I hope there is a work around for this but it will take Congress to get to work.

However, I was alive and alert when your delusional president and his maniacal henchman, Mayorkas, allowed millions of unvetted and illegal migrants into our country.

Your flood of links about Trump’s actions are not news to me. I listen to Rachel Maddow and Morning Joe and their panels of “experts” every day.

You, are a die-hard partisan who doesn’t appear to care about any details as long as your side is winning…just like the people at Indivisible.

Their strategy is interesting and they even admit to having learned a lot from the Teaparty, just as the right has learned from Alinsky.
It will be interesting to see if their outrage campaign is successful. I guess we’ll have to wait for the midterms to find out.

In the meantime, it’s pretty evident Trump has gathered a bunch of people who aren’t going to back down this time.

        1. Badhat,

Assuming he’s serious, what are your thoughts on invading Greenland?

Also assuming he’s serious, what are your thoughts on a 3rd term for Trump?

          1. I can help with that; Badhat will claim Trump isn’t serious, and that’s it’s just a brilliant distraction to ‘trigger the Dems”, but if it happens, it’s somehow the Democrats’ fault for not stopping him.

Same thing regarding a 3rd term.

            1. I can’t understand why he would talk about third term. Triggering Dems or more likely Reps does not really make sense. Maybe he believes his policy will hurt USA for all of his 4 years, and he needs to convince people there will be continuity, thus do not abandon ‘ship’.
Greenland is a different story. Unfortunately, the world is not what we learned about in school. If you do not want to see America fall, then Greenland is a strategic interest that neither an autonomous Greenland nor Denmark can support. The UN cannot support it, Russia can’t afford to administer it, and it appears that China is contrary to USA’s interests. There is no property ownership or property law in Greenland. We would like to live in a world of self determination… at least the Ukrainians would. But this is a case of imminent domain, no matter how ugly that term sounds.

          2. I’ve never thought of Greenland until just recently, but I can find it on the map. 🙂

Apparently Trump thinks it’s strategically important but I haven’t heard a good articulation of why. Gaining more control of the Panama canal makes sense if we are, in fact, being overcharged. Again, I don’t know.

What I am mostly concerned with is ridding ourselves of the millions of illegal people in our country…not only because we are paying for their well being, but because they compete with low-wage workers.
Ceasar Chavez agreed with this view. I am very interested to see Trump collaborating with Sheinbaum to finally go after the cartels so that the people of Mexico can emerge from the current nightmare and be able to live decent lives

As far as a third term…he’s just pulling your chain, but I do hope Trump does well enough to convince more people not to vote Democrat.

            1. Not sure what you mean or that you do either.

I don’t feel obliged to have a solid opinion about everything Trump does or says and I gave my current opinion pretty clearly to the questions asked.

But since you are so scrupulous…let me ask you what your opinion was of Biden falling asleep while he was visiting with some head of state (Bibi Netanhu?) in the oval office. What is your opinion about Biden not being able to find his way off the stage or speak for longer than two minutes without lapsing into gibberish? What was your opinion about 13 service members being killed needlessly during the Afghanistan withdrawal and leaving millions of dollars of military equipment for the Taliban?
What was your opinion of the retaliatory attack the next day which killed an aid worker and his whole family?
What was your opinion of Biden excusing student loans after the Supreme Court said it was unlawful?
What is your opinion of the Biden administration and the media hiding the fact that the president was well past his due date? What do you think of the fact that the democrat party skipped the primary process and went right to installing Harris as the candidate? What do you think of the US/Mexico border being wide open while Alejandro Mayorkis said the border was closed and secure? What do you think of Biden selling taxpayer funded border fence materials for pennies on the dollar right before Trump took office?

These are just a few of the questions you should feel obliged to answer because you, as everyone here knows, have a spine.

            2. Okay, I’ll take them point by point, to show you how easy it is when you actually have a brain, and a spine.

              From you, simping hard:

But since you are so scrupulous…let me ask you what your opinion was of Biden falling asleep while he was visiting with some head of state (Bibi Netanhu?) in the oval office.

-He’s old, and that happened. Why would I have an opinion about that?

What is your opinion about Biden not being able to find his way off the stage or speak for longer than two minutes without lapsing into gibberish?

              -See above.

What was your opinion about 13 service members being killed needlessly during the Afghanistan withdrawal and leaving millions of dollars of military equipment for the Taliban?

-That was a terrorist attack; I can’t think of why their deaths would be “needed”.

What was your opinion of the retaliatory attack the next day which killed an aid worker and his whole family?

              -It was tragic.

What was your opinion of Biden excusing student loans after the Supreme Court said it was unlawful?

-I’m okay with it. It helped a lot of people. Not me, personally, but I’m okay with it.

What is your opinion of the Biden administration and the media hiding the fact that the president was well past his due date?

              -That’s not a fact, that’s your opinion.

What do you think of the fact that the democrat party skipped the primary process and went right to installing Harris as the candidate?

-Fine, actually. Biden stepped down; she was the VP they voted for.

What do you think of the US/Mexico border being wide open while Alejandro Mayorkis said the border was closed and secure?

-That’s inaccurate. The border isn’t “wide open”, and never has been; unless you’re talking about the US/Canada border.

What do you think of Biden selling taxpayer funded border fence materials for pennies on the dollar right before Trump took office?

              -Source required.

Now, notice, at no time did I say, “What about Trump?”
Because, I can actually stand behind what I say, and face up to it when it’s wrong.

Something you are completely incapable of doing, and everyone can see why.

      2. Well maybe the dems should come up with decent candidates. Trump is a direct result of the feckless character and corruption of the Democrat party. People have had it and Trump is what you get.

Now you have almost four years to get serious and get it right. I doubt traipsing around with silly signs will help you achieve that end…but everyone loves a parade

        1. Badhatharry, this is in response to your March 31, 2025 at 5:33 pm remarks:

Do you think we feel about Biden the way you appear to feel about Trump?

If those charges about Biden are more than mere assertions, and are proven in court, do you think I would charge the capital building in protest?

If I did charge the capital, do you think I would ask for or deserve?

Why, when I asked you about 3rd terms and Greenland did you “what about” directly to immigration?

Was immigration truly your rationale for voting for Trump?

If Trump attempts to remain in office without a constitutional amendment overturning the 22nd amendment, will you support him? Under what circumstances will you not support him?

    2. Wow, you might just be the most delusional person ever to write into Anne’s blog. And that is saying a lot considering some of the comments posted here over the years.

  3. Have fun and don’t forget your sunscreen!

Everyone knows that reducing the size and scope of the federal bureaucracy is necessary.
The democrats were talking about this as far back as Bill Clinton.

You all just don’t want Trump to be the one to actually do it.

    1. You couldn’t be more correct. Trump has been lucky throughout his life. The end. He hates those that are smarter than him. He hates those that are better looking. He hates reason, accountability, intelligence, and he hates he possess none of the qualities necessary to be seen as such. And he has no idea what he’s doing. I absolutely do not want him in charge of anything.

  4. This is wonderful news!! When we thought it was cancelled I registered for the protest in Glenwood Springs. I just wish I could be in two places at once on April 5th!!! But barring unforeseen circumstances, I will definitely be at one of them! Thank you, Anne, for keeping us apprised of this and so many more important happenings that affect us here in the Grand Valley. You are appreciated!!!

    1. My main motivation for voting for Trump is/was because I loathe Hillary Clinton.
I segued into the border and Mexico because those are things I care about and I believe Trump is going to do something about these very serious issues. The Greenland stuff is a sideshow. I don’t know why Trump does this stuff. Sometimes I think he just wants to see heads explode.

As far as the potential of Democrats rioting…they did that over George Floyd with far greater damage, but never suffered any social damage.

My beliefs about January 6 are that Trump supporters stepped into it but in no way is the term “insurrection” apt. But, as usual, the dems took the opportunity to use it as a very effective cudgel. The democrats are nothing if not extremely strategic.

As far as the way you feel about Biden? I assume it’s because you’ve always voted democrat.

I really wish Trump was more palatable and many of his supporters feel the same way. I have always thought of him as an almost biblical character, like maybe King David…deeply flawed, but a man who is needed for this time.

I would not support Trump having a third term. My nervous system couldn’t take it. My most fervent hope is that in a few years the US can get back to normal.

      1. And lastly…I must admit to being a bit of a revolutionary. I think the Washington establishment is too big, too comfortable, and too corrupt. I see Trump as a person who has been willing to challenge the status quo. It is infinitely interesting to see what happens when someone does that.

        1. A “revolutionary” who kowtows to a man who openly admits he wants the US to become a dictatorship?
I’d make a Che Guevara reference, but even he knew sucking up to Russia was a bad idea…

        2. Badhat, you seem unaware that it is 100% legal to ask for asylum in the U.S., but the law requires that to do so, you have to first be in the U.S. to request it: https://www.usa.gov/asylum

So it was the government itself that set up the system of laws that require people to first cross the border and enter the U.S. prior to applying for asylum.

          1. Yes, I do realize that is the law. And, it is an unbelievably stupid law. I think it is fairly recent…Bush era? The “remain in Mexico” scheme was meant to circumvent that, but Biden did away with that.

In my opinion, it was completely taken advantage of by NGOs and maybe even the Mexican cartels…instructing migrants to just get their foot in the door, sign some papers and disappear.

Asylum is meant for people in really dire conditions. But now it is for people who, rightly, think things will be better in the north.

Mexico, in particular, is a horrible place for its inhabitants. The cartels have virtually taken over and thousands of young men are being romanced into the narco life. Who wouldn’t want to leave?

But I am not willing to let them into our country and hopefully things will change. Sheinbaum seems to be cooperating with the US to take out the cartels…finally. But the culture has been narco-driven for a century.

What pisses me off the most is the seemingly benificent NGOs cooperating in undermining our culture. That is why I’m happy to see the demise of USAID.

            1. Seems a tad weird that deporting kidney transplant doctors (“the kidney has a special place in my heart” as Harry’s supreme leader said) and engineers as those are the people to whom Elon wanted to give sanctity. I am glad that Harry’s mission is being served and apparently he has no interest in stocks….OR CD’s, or buying anything. Harry must be all in on gold! Mission accomplished Harold!

          2. Harry,

How many American citizens or legal immigrants are you willing to allow to be deported because of no due process? Due process is how you prove your citizenship when ICE makes a mistake, which they are already doing. Your willingness to skip due process just because you don’t think they deserve it is despicable.

        3. To Seamus:
          You say “everyone”.

There are a very few people who post here or bother to read the comments.
In all the time I’ve visited I’ve never seen anyone respond to what you post. Do you imagine you have some big fan club out there in the internet cheering you on? You are, from all appearances, an angry old man, whose claim to importance is slaying the evil Trump supporter in his midst.

I do try to ignore you, but every once in a while I get curious to find out what your latest outrage is about something I’ve posted. Hopefully, some day I’ll realize you’re not worth the time.

        4. I answered your “challenging” questions, to show anyone (even someone like me) is capable of doing what you lack the spine to do.

I’m not surprised you’d get all butt-hurt that I did.

      2. This is for John…it’s impossible to “reply” sometimes.

I still think the “three terms” business is a joke. I suppose there could be some strategy involved.

As far as his four year term being unsuccessful, that is indeed possible. He has violated a whole lot of norms, such as sending Venezuelans to El Salvador and that will probably end up in the Supreme Court. On its face, we are foolish to give up on our belief in due process. But the idea of having every illegal show up in court before they’re deported is unimaginable.
I don’t know the rationale behind opening the border was…but it left a huge mess to clean up.

If DOGE is successful, that will be a win he can claim. Not sure why he put Musk in charge, because he’s another agitant.
But he’s ballsy, something Trump admires.

And that’s why, I guess, I haven’t thought much about Greenland. Too much going on right here at home.

      3. Strategic, Ummmmmm the P2025 that supreme leader orange man had never heard of? Commandeering the SCOTUS? Taking over school boards and city councils? Library boards? talk about strategic, GOOPERS are masterclass. Now….I’m not woke, just broke! Thanks alot fellow American. No, I will not be bringing my bear spray nor killing anyone with a fire extinguisher tomorrow. But I am mad as hell
