Emergency rally & protest: GJ Stands with L.A., tomorrow, Tuesday, 6/10, Lilac Park, 5:30 p.m.

In solidarity with the No ICE protesters in Los Angeles and several other cities around the country, Grand Junction residents are planning a protest at 5:30pm tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10, at Lilac Park, located at the southeast corner of 1st and North Avenue.

This protest is PEACEFUL, but LOUD!  “No ICE”/”Support for L.A.” signs are encouraged. Bring your voices, and if you have them, copies of your pocket Constitutions.

(P.S. –  The No Kings Day protest this coming Saturday, 6/14 at 10:00 a.m. at Canyon View Park is ABSOLUTELY still on!)

Context:

Protesters clashed with federal agents over the weekend in Los Angeles after convicted felon, sexual abuser and President Trump seized control of the California National Guard and, without permission from California’s governor, deployed 2,000 federalized National Guard troops to counter people rallying peacefully against ICE actions towards immigrants in Los Angeles.

Trump had promised to only go after dangerous criminal immigrants, but instead is now having masked Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents launch paramilitary-style raids on workplaces like Home Depot, clothing retailers, doughnut shops, courthouses and day labor centers. ICE agents have started seizing law-abiding people at their jobs, immigration appointments and court hearings, without judicial warrants in violation of the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution entitles all persons present in the U.S. to due process, regardless of their immigration status.

What sets these raids apart from normal civil law enforcement actions is their military-style execution.

Federal agents have been carrying out raids wearing military-style tactical gear and heavily armed, carrying rifles. Agents often arrive in unmarked black SUVs and wearing masks that conceal their identity. They block off access to some sites with tactics typically used during high-threat counterterrorism actions or drug bust operations. People in the U.S. legally have been seized and disappeared for “offenses” as insignificant as co-authoring an op-ed that is counter to Trumps views.

The ALCU describes this unwarranted show of force as “oppressive and vile paramilitary operations.” Civil liberties groups say the tactics the federal government is using are generating panic in local communities and violate protocols for civil immigration enforcement.

  1. Thank you for sharing. Biden deported more people than this guy, and didn’t have to terrorize communities or take away peoples’ civil liberties. This country is becoming more authoritarian by the day. The White House memorandum to deploy the National Guard and military is not confined to any city and is so vague it could potentially last until the end of Trumps term. Meanwhile, a Saturday’s parade is turning out to be a Russia/North Korea-style monstrosity.

But it’s great to see one of your MAGAt fans completely triggered by this. I hope you are monetizing page visits to take advantage of this traffic.

    1. I was just checking in to see if anyone here had a good suggestion about modifying “No Kings” signs to “Stop Ice” signs for Saturday’s rally.

And what the heck are we supposed to do with our “Elon is a Nazi”
      signs?
      This is getting complicated.

    2. PS I’m just wondering why Biden’s deportations didn’t “terrorize communities”

Maybe ICE deported from sane states like Texas instead of the insane sanctuary states like California where the mayor obliquely threatens violence.

      Just something to research.

  2. Yes Anne I know who you stand by and quote…your fellow travelers who are busy spinning tales to cover their incompetence.
Gavin Newsom was busy all day having his hair done, recording podcasts and posing with serious looks for the cameras, while the LAPD finally went to work. He knows nothing except how to pander and shift blame. When he utters words like “our immigrant community” it makes me sick. He and you know this is about something much different…people who are here illegally.

And of course Karen sings from the same songbook.” “Everything was fine until Trump got involved.”
They don’t want immigration laws enforced.
That’s the long and short of it and they hung their hopes on their sanctuary state status.

The next few days are going to be interesting. We’ll see how Gavin’s lawsuit goes. The National Guard is currently standing on the steps of the federal building keeping the usual suspects from breaking windows and destroying property. Maybe Angelinos will like the idea of not having to pay millions for repairs and giving their guardsmen something useful to do.

Meanwhile, some goofy democrat congresswoman, Becca Balint, said the quiet part out loud, regarding illegal immigration, “We’re not going to have anyone around to wipe our asses.”

    1. I think I found the culprit.
On June 6, after she learned about the ICE raids, Karen Bass issued a statement which said she would not stand for this, she was deeply angered and was in close coordination with community immigrant organizers. This was well before Trump called out the National Guard.

And just like magic, mobs descended on ICE operations and it took flash bangs to disburse the crowd.
Now we know Karen isn’t that bright, so maybe she forgot putting out the call. And maybe she forgot that ICE is enforcing federal law and that she’s not to get in the way of that, no matter how deeply angered she is.

But she does know that no matter what happens, she’ll always be able to blame Trump.

    1. Maybe you should inform grandma that she is being used.
These activists are counting on simple, good hearted people to behave irrationally. Of course Grand Junction is small potatoes but every little bit helps the cause.
And don’t forget, she is expected to appear at canyon view park on Saturday to convert the little league parents.

      Maybe she should pace herself.

  3. Who picks parks for protests?

Canyon View will be nearly invisible. Now it’s Lilac Park. More of the same.

    So who picks the spots?

  4. If only you could be honest, Anne. The ensuing incident was thugs attacking ICE vehicles, setting some of them on fire, at the LA detention center. LAPD stood down and Trump ordered the National Guard to come and protect federal personnel and property.

I assume you are an intelligent person and that is why I am always amazed with the BS you peddle. But, I also always assume you know what you’re doing and wonder how you can do it.

As I predicted, this is going to be another George Floyd “summer of love” with billions in damage and you are promoting it. This time we get to witness the GJ minions of indivisible and 50501 taking part. Too bad we’re not a big city that will get infiltrated by folks like ANTIFA…but you may get lucky.

You should take up something respectable
    … like knitting.

    1. I stand behind what I wrote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom posted on social media yesterday at 4:20 P.M. that “We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved.” https://x.com/GavinNewsom/status/1931840646773715068

In an article posted on NPR today, June 9, at 5:00 a.m. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass “blamed the increasingly aggressive protests on the president’s decision to deploy the Guard, calling it a move designed to enflame tensions.”

Trump federalizing the National Guard without the approval of the state’s governor had the president’s intended affect of intentionally inflaming tensions.

A law called the Posse Comitatus Act bars federal troops from participating in civilian law enforcement except when expressly authorized by law or in times of declared war. Neither of these conditions exist in Los Angeles. The same law prohibits the president from using the military as a domestic police force. The president is violating this law. See
      https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/posse-comitatus-act-explained

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said, …”[By] the time the National Guard arrived Sunday morning, the protests had dissipated and streets were quiet, but soon after the National Guard arrived, tensions reignited, leading to the very sort of unrest the National Guard was supposedly sent in to quell.” He wrote, “Let me be clear: There is no invasion. There is no rebellion. The President is trying to manufacture chaos and crisis on the ground for his own political ends. Federalizing the California National Guard is an abuse of the President’s authority under the law – and not one we take lightly. We’re asking a court to put a stop to the unlawful, unprecedented order.”

CA Gov. Gvin Newsom said, “Donald Trump is creating fear and terror by failing to adhere to the U.S. Constitution and overstepping his authority. This is a manufactured crisis to allow him to take over a state militia, damaging the very foundation of our republic. …Every governor, red or blue, should reject this outrageous overreach. This is beyond incompetence — this is him intentionally causing chaos, terrorizing communities, and endangering the principles of our great democracy. It is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism. We will not let this stand.” https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-releases/attorney-general-bonta-governor-newsom-challenge-trump-order-seeking-federalize
