National groups organize “We Ain’t Buying It” holiday blackout shopping freeze targeting 3 big companies that support the MAGA agenda

The national groups that spearheaded the No Kings protests and other activities aimed at protesting the Trump administration and the billionaire backers enabling it just launched the “We Ain’t Buying It” holiday shopping freeze campaign that will take place from Thanksgiving, November 27, through Cyber Monday, December 1 — a period that encompasses the so-called “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” shopping days. The groups organizing the the We Ain’t Buying It boycott are Black Voters Matter, the Working Families Party, Indivisible and Until Freedom.

The three targets of the boycott are

  • Target,
  • Home Depot, and
  • Amazon

These three companies are being targeted because of their support for the MAGA agenda of rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, enabling or supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and exploiting their workers.

Goal: A big hit to big, corporate shopping

So-called Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the biggest shopping days of the year, and account for almost 20% of the big retailers’ annual sales. The projected spending on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined is close to $80 billion. The “We Ain’t Buying It” campaign aims to negatively impact MAGA’s economic backers and show that large numbers of people do not a agree with the Trump administration’s fascist policies.

Amazon and Target each donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration, after which Target immediately rolled back its DEI policies. Amazon also dropped its DEI policies and set up contracts with ICE to provide surveillance technology through Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Moreover, Amazon engages in union-busting and draconian exploitation of its workers, and also is a key component of Trump’s deportation machine and the military occupations happening in cities around the country.

Home Depot has also caught the ire of immigrant rights organizations, particularly in Los Angeles, due to its lack of protections for day laborers who seek jobs while staging in Home Depot parking lots around the country. There have been several ICE raids both in Home Depot parking lots and inside Home Depot stores, which has put Home Depot in the crosshairs of the anti-MAGA movement.

So shop small, spend your money supporting local businesses and use your economic clout to stand against racism, fascism and oligarchy.
