Tina Peters blamed for Trump’s dismantling of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder

Colorado elected officials and multiple media outlets are linking Trump’s promise to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder to Trump’s continued lack of success in bullying Colorado Governor Jared Polis into springing former Mesa County Clerk/convicted felon and professional election denier Tina Peters from prison. Trump promised to retaliate against Colorado unless Tina is released from prison.

The White House has not denied the connection.

Colorado Senator Michael Bennet says dismantling NCAR is “very much about Tina Peters.”

House Rep. Joe Neguse says Trump’s promise to dismantle NCAR is

“…clearly retaliatory action by the Trump administration connected to the state’s refusal to honor the lawless request by the Trump administration for the release of Tina Peters.”

Senators Bennet and John Hickenlooper have put a hold on a Senate appropriations packet to demand full funding for NCAR, saying

“President Trump is attacking Colorado because we refuse to bend to his corrupt administration. His reckless decision to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research will have lasting, devastating impacts across the country. We are holding the Senate’s appropriations package to demand full funding for NCAR. As Trump’s rampage continues, we will pull every lever available to do what is right for Colorado.”

The statement is clearly reference to the state of Colorado’s refusal to cave to Trump’s repeated bullying and demands to release Tina from prison.

Trump has repeatedly called Polis “weak,” a “sleazebag” and a “coward” for his refusal to release Tina from the La Vista Correctional Facility in Pueblo, and has promised to take “harsh measures” against Colorado if she is not released:

NCAR is located in Boulder, Colorado and employs 830 people. It is the nation’s leading climate research facility and an extremely important American climate research center. It is funded by the federal National Science Foundation (NSF) and managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). It focuses on Earth science, weather, climate and space, and the information and data it generates supports the global scientific community by providing models, supercomputers and resources that help improve weather predictions and scientific understanding of atmospheric phenomena. NCAR is also a key collaborative research hub and provides tools and expertise for universities and the public.

  1. While they say it’s about Tina Peanuts right now, I’m sure they would have eventually found another excuse to dismantle NCAR. Why don’t we just get a big banner and temporarily rename it the Trump Weather Center (aka the “Sharpie Shack”)? Such a grand sycophantic gesture would surely save NCAR’s certain destruction long enough to get the country back to a place of sanity.

    1. Good point, don’t stop there, rename everything in our country after him, that way the maga and doge goons will have to leave it all alone.
