A January 19, 2026 press release posted on the site TinaPeters.us claims Tina was assaulted in prison about 9 p.m. the previous night by another inmate who attacked her unprovoked. The release claims the inmate attacked Tina as she was “inside a maintenance closet to fill up a water unit,” that Tina defended herself, and that Tina was subsequently “handcuffed, shackled and “brought to solitary confinement.” The release says she will be held in “the hole” for “an unknown period of time” and possibly charged with felony assault “for defending herself against an unprovoked attack.”
(Solitary confinement hasn’t existed in Colorado state prisons since 2015.)
At the end of the press release there is an appeal for people to send money to Tina’s legal defense fund.
But the Colorado Department of Corrections made video of the attack public.
The video shows Tina trying to get a large, wheeled maintenance unit measuring about 5 feet tall by 2 feet wide through a doorway, but taht she was trying to pull it through at what amounted to an impossible an angle. It appears that the other inmate came along, saw Tina struggling with the unit and stopped to help Tina by straightening out the angle of the unit so it would pass through the doorway, when Tina attacked her. In the video, it appears Tina was the aggressor, attacked the helper unprovoked and put her hands on the throat of the inmate who was trying to help her.
