A new candidate with actual financial experience has entered the race for Mesa County Treasurer

The first candidate to enter the race for Mesa County Treasurer was Grand Junction chiropractor Greg Haitz, who has no background or experience in finance. The second candidate was Rose Pugliese, who also has no background or experience in finance. But finally someone with actual knowledge, education and experience in finance has entered the race: Christina Schultz, a degreed financial professional who has over two decades of experience in financial modeling, auditing, and strategic planning. Schultz is endorsed by the Forward Party, the centrist political party

Andrew Yang, who started the Forward Party, was known for his slogan MATH, which stands for “Make America Think Again.” (Screenshot: YouTube, from 2020)

started by Andrew Yang, a businessman, attorney, political commentator and author who ran for president in the primary elections in 2020. Perhaps you remember Yang’s slogan that he wore on a blue ball cap or on a pin on his lapel: MATH, which stands for “Make America Think Harder.”

Schultz has a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Yale and was the youngest graduating member of her class at the Yale School of Management.  She has loads of experience and knowledge in the field of finance, and wants to make sure county funds generate the maximum revenue possible. She is very qualified to hold the position of Mesa County Treasurer, and we’re fortunate that she’s stepped up to run. Check out her campaign website to see all of her experience. Schultz has experience in expense and revenue analysis, auditing government grants, managing financial statements, and lots more.

Her name will not appear on the ballot in Colorado’s primary election on June 30, 2026, because she is the only Forward Party candidate, so look for her name on the general election ballot in the mid-term election on Tuesday, November 3,2026.

    1. That’s a fair question. Given the characteristics that Republicans have shown of late, is a qualified Republican a better choice tham a Democrat with lesser qualifications?

Honestly, I’d have to say no. You can learn finance. Learning how not to defend pedophiles is much harder, apparently.

    2. Um, it is my understanding the Republican party has pretty much been supplanted by Maga and henceforth is now known as the Maga party. Traditional Republicans have fled and many are now Independents, Libertarians, maybe Dems or joined the Forward Party etc.
But to answer your question- would I vote/endorse a candidate that was a Republican?
All candidates regardless of party affiliation need to possess integrity, core values w a focus on truthfulness and justice. The candidate should have the appropriate skill set(s) and credentials required to get the job done. Leadership is essential as are good communication skills.
The candidate should also embrace the quote-” It is not partisan to stand for democracy and decency”.
I am an Independent who goes to the polls well informed.
The public history of the other 2 candidates suggests they lean towards Maga. And they appear to have little aptitude to succeed as a county treasurer. I will not vote for them.

  1. Ms. Schultz has my vote!
A promising candidate b/c she has proven capabilities vs stale, bordering on desperation wannabes driven by conspiracy theories and embracing of the – No MATH criteria.

  2. Grand Valley citizen

I read about her in an article in Thursday’s Sentinel – she looks to be both the most qualified and an ideal fit. I’m happy that she’d decided to throw her hat in the ring. I also hope that she will be our new Treasurer!

    1. No Haiters! So agree, and the description here is very interesting. It would be nice to have someone qualified as opposed to another good ol’ boy.
