The clouds gave some welcome relief from the hot sun for the 8647 Day rally and protest held in Grand Junction on June 14, 2026, on North Ave. at 23rd Street where people gathered to decry the desecration of the United States under Trump’s mafia-like regime.
There is lots to protest.
In less than one-half of his current term, convicted felon/adjudicated sexual abuser/President Trump has effectively alienated almost all of the allies the U.S. has worked on building relationships with for over 70 years. Trump has ruined America’s reputation globally and alienated hundreds of millions of people across the globe. The national debt has almost doubled since Trump first vowed to erase it, and he’s torn down the East Wing of the White House while engaging in a long list of vanity projects, like building a golden ballroom, planning to build a triumphal arch, repainting the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool to look like a swimming pool and the creation of a $250 bill with his picture on it, all costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars while millions of Americans are having trouble affording food, health care, housing, transportation and energy bills. Without consulting Congress or the American people, Trump took the country into a war that is costing taxpayers $1 billion a day, increasing inflation nationally, emboldening and empowering Iran and handing that country the ability to strangle the world economy at will. People are suffering and dying in gulag-like, for-profit ICE concentration camps across the country, where people — many of whom are in the country legally and haven’t been charged with any crimes — are held without due process, in violation of the Constitution.
Trump is also working to rig the mid-term elections in Republicans’ favor, and seize control over elections in the U.S. in an effort to stay in power indefinitely.
There is lots to worry about and very little to celebrate as the U.S. nears its 250th anniversary. Americans must use this anniversary to come together to fight to stop Trump’s incredibly chaotic, destructive, mob-like and immoral authoritarian regime.
