Rep. Jeff Hurd (R, CD-3) votes to fund ICE without restrictions until 2029, failing to rein in a rogue agency that has been routinely violating laws, civil rights and court orders

The western slope’s Republican House Rep. Jeff Hurd (CD-3) cast a key vote to put $70 billion more into funding Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) without putting any restrictions on these rogue agencies that under Trump have been routinely detaining people indiscriminately, violating civil rights, U.S. laws and court orders.has been routinely violating laws, civil rights and court orders.

On January 28, 2026, a federal judge in Minnesota found that ICE had violated almost 100 court orders and disobeyed more judicial directives in one month than “some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”

Reuters found that as of February 14, 2026, federal judges had ruled 4,400 times that ICE had jailed people illegally. ICE agents have also been abusing reporters and peaceful protesters who try to document their actions. People ICE has detained illegally have been forced to file over 20,000 lawsuits seeking their release, clogging the courts, and despite frequent court rulings against ICE’s aggressive tactics and unlawful detentions, the agency under Trump has continued engaging in the same behaviors courts have repeatedly ruled illegal.

The f$70 billion funding bill contained none of the restrictions Democrats had long pushed for to rein in ICE agents, including improving their training, banning them from wearing masks, mandating they use body-worn cameras to document their actions, banning funding for separating immigrant families. Democrats also tried but failed to amend the bill to redirect some of the bill’s funding towards addressing the increasing costs of housing, healthcare and everyday consumer items.

The bill passed the House by a close vote of 214 to 212, making Hurd a crucial vote in passing it, and failing to protect Americans against a rogue agency.

  1. How do we fight this BS? Is UnHurd that popular in CD3 that he is not getting the message?
He has done so much harm to Colorado. And he still puts out the touchy feely newsletters.
I have never been this angry at Politian’s in my life.
    What can we do?
