Jeff Hurd defends Trump’s demolition of the White House East Wing

I missed this from 10 months ago, but people should know that incumbent Republican CD-3 House Rep. Jeff Hurd openly supported Trump demolishing the historic East Wing of the White House. He should have known Trump’s actions were a violation of U.S. law.

Trump tore down the East Wing in October of 2025 to build a ballroom. The National Trust for Historic Preservation, whose mission is to preserve historic sites of national significance, filed a lawsuit in December of 2025 to block Trump’s project, asserting that his destruction of the East Wing and subsequent construction of a ballroom in its place is unlawful.

Excerpt of the Appeals Court’s 8/7/26 ruling against Trump’s ballroom.

On August 7, 2026, the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled against Trump’s project, confirming the Executive Branch lacked the authority to alter the White House’s structure without explicit approval from Congress. “The White House is the People’s House,” the Appeals Court ruled, “and under the Constitution’s Property Clause, Congress exercises plenary control over the building and its surrounding land.”

More from the Court’s ruling, making it clear Trump has no unilateral authority to demolish the White House
Jeff Hurd with convicted felon/adjudicated sexual abuser/President Trump at the White House. In addition to defending Trump’s illegal demolition of the White House’s East Wing, Hurd voted to further fund the rogue agency ICE, without any restrictions put on the agency’s well-documented abuses.

Given Hurd’s background as a regulatory attorney and the fact that as a member of Congress he is sworn to defend the U.S. Constitution and uphold the law, he ought to have at least researched whether the administration had the legal right to demolish federally-owned, taxpayer-funded public property before supporting Trump’s demolition of the East Wing.

One has to wonder how many more executive overreaches, constitutional violations and  court order transgressions Rep. Hurd is willing to defend.

Hillary Clinton knew destroying the White House without the permission of Congress was illegal. Why didn’t Jeff Hurd know? And if he did, why did he support it anyway?

  1. “One has to wonder how many more executive overreaches, constitutional violations and court order transgressions Rep. Hurd is willing to defend??”

All of them, don’t you know what the GOP signed up for; whatever the Boss says. Constitutional and constituent betrayal by another perfidious ally!

  2. Please point to an article or video or whatever where Jeffrey Hurdstein says publicly that he supports this.
    Thank you.
