Trump jokes to supporters’ faces that they can’t even afford a hamburger at his private club

At a campaign rally in Corpus Christi, Texas on Tuesday, October 27, Trump mocked his followers and made fun of their relative poverty when talking about the $5,000 checks he fake-promised to send to every American if Republicans win the mid-term elections. (Such bribe checks, if they were ever sent out, would cost the federal government an estimated $1.2 trillion and require the approval of Congress, and a time when the U.S. is already burdened with $40 trillion in national debt.)

Trump said the only requirement is that people would have to spend their $5,000 “Trump Dividend” inside the United States. He then laughed and suggested people could join him for lunch in Miami Beach at Mar-A-Lago, saying “…and we’ll buy at Mar-A-Lago one hamburger and a small dessert. That would take up about $5,000.”

People laughed.

Trump made the joke just days before the 2026 midterm elections, at a time when Americans are struggling to pay historic high prices for gasoline, diesel, groceries, health insurance and other life necessities.

It’s really a $1,000,000+ burger

Trump’s followers would actually need a lot more than $5,000 to eat a hamburger with the President at his private club. The initiation fee to join the Mar-A-Lago club is $1 million, plus annual dues of $20,000/year, and the required annual minimum food purchase is $2,000/year. While Mar-A-Lago doesn’t publish the prices of food on its menu, a single hamburger ordered through room service at the Trump Doral Miami resort is said to cost $32.

So to get a hamburger at Mar A Lago, Trump’s supporters would have to pay him least $1,020,000 before even getting the privilege of paying the cost of their burger.

(Note: Trump hiked the initiation fee to join Mar-A-Lago from $700,000 to $1 million in 2024  in anticipation that people would pony up the higher amount to gain access to him.)
