Indivisible Grand Junction sent out the below invitation to join a “Good Trouble Lives On” protest on 7/17, to defend democracy and urge a stop to the erosion of civil and human rights in the United States. Good Trouble Lives On events are being held nationwide that day.
The event honors legendary former civil rights activist and House Rep. John Lewis, a founder of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and one of the people who led over 600 peaceful protesters across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama in 1965 to demonstrate the need for voting rights in Alabama. The incident became known as Bloody Sunday, after state troopers and police attacked Lewis and the protesters on the bridge. Lewis coined the term “good trouble” to refer to the activities of people who actively challenge injustice and advocate for positive social change by speaking out against wrongdoing and taking action to create a more equitable society that works for all citizens. Lewis died on July 17, 2020.

Dear Neighbor,
On Thursday, July 17, we’re joining patriots across the country to rise up in defense of democracy—and we want YOU with us.
Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of peaceful protest honoring the legacy of civil rights hero Congressman John Lewis. As extremists push dangerous legislation like the SAVE Act and crack down on our rights to vote, protest, and speak freely, we’re showing up to say: We will not back down.
This event will be family-friendly, peaceful, and powerful—and we’re making it easy to show up:
🌿 Kids’ Nature Class provided by Wild Wonder (because raising little organizers starts early!)
🕊️ Peaceful, nonviolent demonstration with strong community presence
💪 An opportunity to connect, recharge, and recommit to the fight for justice
🇺🇸 Bring your flags and wear red, white & blue
We’d love your help making this event a success.
