Democracy Docket, a voting rights and media platform that tracks election litigation, lists convicted felon and former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters as one of the “election deniers influencing Trump’s anti-voting policy from the outside.” She is listed alongside others, including former MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, right-wing film maker James O’Keefe and former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne, who paid one of Peters’ attorneys $1 million towards her criminal defense.
Democracy Docket notes that “Lindell was also allegedly responsible for the Trump administration’s efforts to intervene in convicted election denier Tina Peters’ case to get her released from state prison, according to far-right podcaster Steve Stern.”
The publication further claims Tina holds “immense influence over the president,” writing,
“The lengths to which the White House went to punish Colorado over her case show that Peters — the former GOP election clerk who was convicted for her role in a 2021 voting system breach spurred by conspiracies — holds immense influence over the president.”
Lindell stepped down as CEO of the My Pillow company in early August, 2026 to focus on running for Minnesota Governor. He lost his primary election by about 45,000 votes (11 percentage points). He refused to concede his loss in that election and told media outlets he suspected there were “irregularities” in the vote count. Lindell said he planned to pay the $825,000 required for a state-wide hand recount despite tearfully telling a judge in April, 2025, that he was financially ruined and unable to afford the $50,000 of court-ordered sanctions he owed to ballot-counting machine manufacturer Smartmatic.
Democracy Docket also details Peters’ recent activities:
“Since her release from prison, Peters has been on a nonstop far-right media tour spreading the same conspiracies about voting machines that helped land her in prison in the first place. More troublingly, she’s met with Trump and high-level Trump administration officials, including Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon.
Peters has hinted in recent podcast interviews that she’s been meeting with federal officials about election matters — including a meeting with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which was facilitated by [Heather] Honey, the DHS official.”
[Honey is a Pennsylvania-based anti-voting activist whom Trump tapped for a newly created “election integrity” post at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.]
On August 30, Minnesota’s highest court rejected Lindell’s request for a recount.
