Cindy Paschal Ficklin, one of Mesa County’s most far right wing extremist political figures, is applying for Paul Pitton’s District B on the District 51 School Board.
Pitton announced he is resigning from the School Board because of the recent politicization of board meetings by extreme right wing activists, particularly members of “Stand for the Constitution,” the group that has been repeatedly pressuring the Mesa County Commissioners to declare the county a “Constitutional sanctuary,” where federal laws don’t apply.
At the August 3 School Board meeting, the right wing extremists were so raucous and threatening toward Board members that members had to be escorted to their cars by the police. Pitton described the atmosphere as “just short of blowing up into something like at the (U.S.) Capitol,” saying the atmosphere at meetings is threatening and he felt bullied.
So, should the school board consider appointing such an extreme political figure?

Ficklin is a fan of the former president, who expressed “love” for the rioters who attacked the Capitol on January 6th. Ficklin is a promoter of the right wing lie about massive voter-fraud and a defender of missing-in-action Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters. Ficklin wrote on Facebook that Peters’ office was “raded by the Secretary of State” [sic]. In a red-meat speech to a crowd attending a “Stand for the Constitution Freedom Rally” on July 4th, 2020, Ficklin told the crowd that “CDC guidelines for opening schools … are literally formed of human torture and child abuse.” She posts on social media that District 51 schools are indoctrinating children into Marxism and communism. She lauds pop figure Nicky Minaj as a public health hero because on 9/13 Minaj posted an anecdotal tweet about the Covid-19 vaccine she heard from a friend of a relative in Tobago. Ficklin is a prodigious selfie-taker, is fond of posing with guns, and she has been banned from Facebook numerous times, with increasing duration each time, for repeatedly spreading misinformation.
Ficklin wrote on Facebook tonight that she is “throwing her name in the hate [sic] for School Board Distruct B [sic],” and given the circumstances, these are all very apropos spelling errors.

I don’t know her or know of her but there are two things that should be clarified. She claimed that she has more CTE endorsements than any teacher in D51. She had 3. Her initial CTE endorsement expired 10/17/2019. An initial CTE authorization is available to applicants who meet the educational and occupational requirements for the particular CTE credential sought, but have not meet the coursework requirements for issuance of a professional (five-year) CTE authorization. I know of a teacher who still works in the district that has a professional teaching license with 3 CTE endorsements plus an endorsement in business education. It might have just be a mistake on her part.

Why mess with small potatoes like the school board Cindy? You have the same resume as the last Republican president—run for president!
I’m a little bit tired of every two bit nitwit demagogue desperate for attention without any moral faculty posting pictures of themselves on Facebook claiming to be visiting and supporting the troops when the truth of it is she’s out there gang banging half of San Diego’s naval base. And I’m also tired of people thinking that just because she has one or two followers she’s actually fit for the school board. She isn’t fit for anything. She’s an embarrassment and she needs to go away. People will follow even more reality TV stars and Kardashians 2, but that doesn’t mean they belong in any kind of authority position.
Just what we don’t need here! Another mouthy, good looking, and mouthy, rather pretty, political playground extremist. I am glad I don’t have children going to school in this town. Where is the other side? Need a balance here. Shallow voters will vote for what they see. It’s a trick!
