Indivisible Grand Junction, Indivisible Montrose, Mountain Action Indivisible (Carbondale) and Indivisible North Fork will host a town hall meeting for CD-3 Congressman Jeff Hurd, with or without him, this Saturday, February 22, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in Grand Junction at a venue near to central downtown. Indivisible will reveal the location of the town hall to people who sign up to attend the event.

Indivisible mobilizes individuals and groups to defend democracy. It focuses on combining pressure by local constituents with national campaigns. Indivisible works both inside and outside established systems.

Republican House Rep. Jeffrey S. Hurd. CD-3 – Constituents hope he will attend the town hall meeting to discuss what Trump is doing to the country and address Trump’s Constitutional violations

Indivisible’s website says “Donald Trump and Elon Musk are staging a coup. Full stop. It’s time to fight back like our democracy depends on it.”

A description of the event says,

Rep. Jeff Hurd (CD3) is back in the district, supposedly meeting with his constituents. Despite numerous requests, Rep. Hurd has neglected to set up a Town Hall in Grand Junction, the second largest population center in his district.

We’re moving ahead and setting up a Town Hall with or without him. Join us in Grand Junction this Saturday and bring any stories, concerns, or questions you’d like to share with Rep. Hurd. (Exact location provided upon registration.) We’ll videotape the event and share it with the Representative and the press.

Some things we want to ask Rep. Hurd: – You claimed to be fiscally responsible, so why are you supporting handouts for billionaires? – Do you believe Trump should be able to override Congress and control federal spending himself? – Do you support an investigation into how Musk gained access to the US Treasury’s payment system? – If you’re proud of your service in Congress so far, why won’t you hold a public town hall to defend it?

  1. I am not sure why anyone would try to contact Hurd or Boebert or anyone in the Republican House. I read that they do not respond or answer the phone. Shocking.
May I share what might help in protest of Trump? I did this over a year ago to urge passing the Ukraine aid bill. Call all Senators (in my case I just called the swing vote Senators). They WILL take your call. You do not have to be in their district, but it might help if you tell them that you are… and provide a home town and a zip code in the respective State when you call.
Following is the list of 101. You probably could skip calling Vance’s office.

Below is a guide on how to craft a call:

Ask or tell them whatever you wish, but as a favor to me, I would like you to engage in them in something like this.

Senator’s Office: Hello, this is Senator [Last Name]’s office. How may I help you?

You: Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent from [Your City/State]. I’d like to speak with the Senator or a member of their staff about supporting Ukraine.

Senator’s Office: I’d be happy to take down your message. What specifically would you like to share?

You: I strongly urge the Senator to continue supporting military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. The Ukrainian people are fighting not just for their sovereignty but also for democracy and global stability. I believe the U.S. has a moral and strategic responsibility to stand with them against Russian aggression.

Senator’s Office: Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The Senator has supported Ukraine in the past but is also considering other priorities. What specifically do you think is most important right now?

You: Continued military assistance is critical, including air defense systems and ammunition. Additionally, economic and humanitarian aid will help Ukraine rebuild and support displaced families. I’d appreciate it if the Senator could publicly reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine and push for further funding.

Senator’s Office: I appreciate your input. I will make sure your concerns are shared with the Senator. Would you like to receive updates on this issue?

You: Yes, please. And I’d also like to know where the Senator currently stands on additional aid packages.

Senator’s Office: Absolutely. I can add you to our mailing list for updates, and I encourage you to check our website or follow the Senator’s social media for statements on Ukraine.

You: Thank you! I appreciate your time and hope the Senator will continue to stand with Ukraine.

Senator’s Office: Thank you for calling. Have a great day!

Would you like me to adjust anything based on your Senator’s past positions?

    • It’s my understanding that Senators primarily/exclusively take calls from constituents. I think the same holds for House members.

It would be interesting to know how seriously these people take these outreaches.

What is clear is that republican politicians need to come up with a counter strategy to the “town hall”
attacks. These aren’t close to being grassroots and are entirely synthetic.

      • Edit: not entirely synthetic…but taking calculated advantage of the discontent of the democrats.
If I didn’t dislike these people so much, I’d call it genius.

      • From what I understand from this blog, your House Rep simply doesn’t take your call. When I have called Senators and told them I am not in their State, they record the call anyway even if you are from out of district. I admit I am sketchy asking you to tell them that you are a constituent when you are not, so I leave that to your conscience.

        • I have only called one politician in my lifetime.
Jeff Hurd probably wants to just crawl into bed and pull the covers over his head.

The only good that comes from him holding office is that is pisses off the dems.

          • …that and holding on to the teeny weeny majority. It will be so telling to see what happens in two years.

  2. So this is a new and interesting tactic…don’t tell anyone the location of the event unless they sign up to attend…

I hope Jeff does meet with his constituents, although he might want to shoot “indivisible” a pass and organize a more friendly and less antagonistic event, especially on his virgin town hall.

Pssst…maybe he could bring Lauren with him.
    🙂

    • You’re more than welcome to sign up and attend. It’s open to the public.

Grassroots organizations wouldn’t have to organize these town halls if Jeff Hurd had organized one himself. He should be doing that during this recess. He has not been updating the public, and his office is not taking calls from constituents. With so many changes happening on the federal level everyday, he should be updating us. If he is, I haven’t seen where.

    • Senators have a pretty sweet gig, once they’re elected; Democrats are just as prone to disinterest in their voters’ needs as Republicans are, once they’re in office. It’s us and them, and we’re “them”.

Let’s face it, no matter what happens over the next few years, no member of Congress is going to go broke.

“All the senators and representatives and all the citizens of the United States that voted for them are guilty of forgetting one basic rule of business and life: When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.”
― P.J. O’Rourke, Parliament of Whores: A Lone Humorist Attempts to Explain the Entire U.S. Government

      • Music to my ears, Seamus. I approve! You are officially off double secret probation. American politicians are just punters compared to the deep state dysfunction of the EU Parliament and especially the European council.

        • European politicians are tasked with fooling a much more educated populace; they have to be smarter. They also lack the advantage of Cafeteria Christianity to justify their actions.
