District 51 School Board member Barbara Evanson’s husband, Charles “Chaz” Meg Evanson, 43, filed with the Colorado Secretary of State on 5/27/25 to run for Governor of Colorado in 2026. He’s running as an unaffiliated candidate on a platform of infusing Christianity into

state government and public education. His candidate website is full of religious statements like, “Our first task is to restore Colorado’s godly heritage and constitutional foundations,” “[W]e should choose leaders who honor God,” and “An Evanson administration would encourage faith-based leadership.” Evanson wants to “commemorate our state’s Christian heritage in civic education, and encourage schools to teach about the faith of the Founders…”
Evanson also wants to “limit pure democracy” by creating a state electoral college. He says on his candidate website that “Government exists only to secure our God-given rights.” Evanson “envisions a state government that once again fears God…” and says he would “work to end the tragedy of abortion in Colorado.” He urges people to vote for “faith over secularism.”
Evanson’s wife, District 51 School Board member Barbara Evanson, said when she was running for school board that she wants creationism to be taught in public schools and wants to ban “a ton of material” from public school libraries that she personally feels is inappropriate.

On 7/20/23, Evanson filed with the Colorado Secretary of state to create a nonprofit corporation called “Fellowship of the Way,” whose headquarters are at his home in Glade Park. Registration papers for the corporation available online don’t describe any mission for the organization.
Charles “Chaz” Evanson seeks to push his version of Christianity into state government without asking Coloradans whether they want it or not, and despite the fact that Colorado’s religious makeup has been changing quickly over the last decade, to where 40% of Coloradans now don’t identify with any religion, up from 29% in 2014.
The first deadline for filing campaign finance reports with the state is tomorrow, July 15, 2025. After that, we may get more information on who, if anyone, is financially supporting Evanson’s candidacy.
He is asking voters whether they want his theocracy or not, and it’s going to be fun watching him get clobbered. He doesn’t have a prayer.
Oh God, not another sky daddy worshiper. That’s the last thing our State needs.
