The mother of a transgender student who attends a District 51 school reports that a teacher and school principal bullied her child by intentionally outing him together as transgender in front of a classroom full of students — an experience that led her child to attempt suicide by taking 200 pills, resulting in a toxic brain injury he will now struggle with for life.
AnneLandmanBlog gave the mother an opportunity to share her perspective and message about this incident with the public and District 51. She wrote the following message, giving AnneLandmanBlog permission to publish it while keeping her child strictly anonymous out of fear for his life and safety. Consequently, the specific name of the D-51 school has been withheld:
“… I am going to just put everything out there and you can do with it whatever you please as long as we stay anonymous.
I have to hide my son from the world because if the wrong person finds out [he is transgender], he could be killed.
A teacher at [school name withheld] found out he was transgender, printed off his transcript and read his dead name and gender to the class. The principal stood behind the teacher and as a result, my son took 200 pills to end his life last October. He now has a toxic brain injury he will struggle with for life, because an adult felt they needed to out my child.
We have transphobia in our own family, knowing my son isn’t welcome in a home that is supposed to be a part of the village that raises the kids is scary, as you know they spread the word to others who have the same [negative opinions about transgender people].
He can’t get his hormone blockers with the new policies the Trump administration put in place, so because he has periods again, it has caused him to develop feminine features.
My son does not use public restrooms out of fear.
Children shouldn’t have to fear everyday life because of what is in their pants, and for adults to be so concerned about what is in a child’s pants is very concerning.
My son gets scared when meeting friends’ parents because he knows Mesa County is very red and that he’s at risk of hate crimes from adults and children for just being himself.”
