A campaign finance complaint was filed on Monday, September 21, 2026, alleging that Jason Bias, the Republican candidate for Colorado House District 54, accepted improper campaign donations.
Specifically, the complaint alleges Bias accepted individual donations exceeding the legal aggregate limit of $450 per election cycle under state campaign finance law.
Bias has accepted voluntary spending limits for his campaign, allowing him to accept double the standard contribution limit of $225 per individual. Consequently, the maximum amount he may legally accept from any single contributor is $450.
However, campaign finance records indicate that Bias’s campaign accepted donations above this threshold from several individuals, including Charlie Talbott, Mark McCallister, Mary McCallister, Cody Kennedy, Paul Silzell, and others.
Incidentally, Mark McCallister, a former candidate for Grand Junction City Council who supports Bias, is known for posting racist, xenophobic memes, false quotes and misleading photos on social media.
The complaint cites individuals who have donated up to $900 in aggregate to Bias’ campaign. Under Colorado campaign finance regulations, any amount over the $450 limit must be refunded to donors.
