Red Rock GMC forgery

Red Rock GMC on First Street

Last July, Jessi Speer went to Red Rock GMC to trade in her 2011 lifted Dodge pickup truck for a vehicle that was easier to get in and out of. The family owns horses, so she needed a truck to haul hay, but since her daughter has a condition called Chiari malformation, Jessi also needed a comfortable and reliable vehicle to drive her daughter to and from Denver for brain surgeries to help with the condition.

“I just needed a reliable truck I can use on my ranch, but get her comfortably back and forth to Denver for her brain surgeries,” Jessi said.

Jessi told Red Rock she could only afford a monthly payment of under $500.

She ended up buying a 2018 GMC Sierra she thought was priced at $31,000, but by the time Red Rock closed her sale, Jessi found she had been saddled with a loan for $52,485.26 at a monthly payment of $718.35 for a term of 84 months, or 7 years. Without telling her, Red Rock GMC had charged her an additional $7,965 for a service contract and another $2,428 for “Express Maintenance.” The dealership told Jessi to sign her name on an iPad, but “I never saw any actual forms” while at the dealership, she said. The dealership had also promised to pay her $20,000 for her Dodge, but she found out later she had only gotten $19,000.

Because of the recently-revealed information about the problems so many people have had when buying from Red Rock dealerships, Jessi dug out the documents from her deal to look them over and, in addition to all the unauthorized charges and being shorted on her trade-in, she discovered her signatures had been forged on the purchase papers.

Here are samples of Jessi’s actual signature from her government-issued IDs:

Jessi’s real signature on her passport
Jessi’s real signature on her Colorado Drivers License

…and below are the signatures on the documents for the purchase of her 2018 truck from Red Rock GMC:

The signature on Jessi’s disclosures form from Red Rock GMC
The signature on Jessi’s contract to purchase the vehicle
These are the initials that were filled in on Jessi’s disclosures form. She put her real signed initials in the margin, for comparison.

Shortly after purchasing the truck, Jessi took it to have the windows tinted at a cost of $650, as well as to have some other modifications done help her daughter with the headaches she gets due to her condition. Also shortly after purchase, the transmission started having problems. Jessi took it to back Red Rock GMC 3-4 times for repair, paying a $100 deductible each time.

It ended up being in the shop for 5 months.

Blaming the driver

“At first they kept saying it was my driving,” Jessi said. “I’ve always had trucks that needed to be gentle-drove because of the size of them or lifts and I know how to drive it without tearing up a tranny. They literally tried to make me feel crazy. They kept saying it was the driver, not the tranny, and it was safe to take on vacation.”

After finally getting the truck back from the shop, and having been assured by Red Rock’s service department that it was safe to drive, the family took it on a vacation to California.

As soon as they hit the Utah border on the way back, the transmission started to lock up. They had to drive the truck 10 mph all the way from the western border of Utah to home. Fortunately, they managed to finally make it home safely.

But now Jessi is scared to drive the truck at all.

“We could have died rolling it on the freeway with my kids,” she says. “I’m furious. I feel so ripped off. I like the truck, I’m just scared of it, and I can’t afford it. And now I’m scared to get into anything else [at Red Rock] because I’ve been lied to so much. I feel so stupid. I wish I never walked in there.”

  1. They have ruined an amazing dealership. Bob Fuoco is as honest as they come. We have done business with Fuoco Motors for over 50 years. I am so disappointed.

  2. Ann Cary Stinson

How are these people still in business?? I hope some Lawyer takes Jessi’s case on pro bono and sues them for everything.
